CHILD-ONLY COVERAGE
NECHIP has determined that the unavailability of health insurance for minor children in the Nebraska insurance market satisfies an eligibility requirement that the applicant, who is not able to obtain insurance coverage under a parent or legal guardian’s policy, must have first been refused comparable coverage. Minors with coverage under NECHIP may be subject to a six month waiting period for pre-existing conditions. Applicants with pre-existing conditions should explore the possibility of obtaining less expensive health care coverage in the Federal high risk pool (www.pcip.gov). This clarification by NECHIP does not supersede the application process which includes verification of residency, pre-existing health conditions and lack of other insurance coverage.
